A huge thank you to everyone who participated in Welcoming Week with Wayside & the Portland Office of Economic Opportunity! We hope this celebration of community and food made all of our neighbors feel welcomed and connected, because we all belong in Portland. Some of our partners including Angolan Community of Maine, Opportunity Alliance, Portland Community Policing Coordinators, Portland Adult Education, Portland Housing Authority, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, Locker Project, Catholic Charities, and more, helped us share hundreds of Recipes for Welcoming meal kits through their own programming, making sure we reached as many community members as possible. In addition to featuring local chefs from Empanada Club and Yardie Ting, we were happy to also support local businesses and farms! All of the produce was sourced from Belanger Farms, Jordan's Farm, and Native Maine while the spice packets were purchased by Gryffon Ridge Spice Merchants. Thanks to our sponsor MEMIC for making this event possible. If you missed it, you can still find the recipes from Empanada Club and Yardie Ting online here.Watch Welcoming Week in the news: 'Portland celebrates Welcoming Week with food' - WCSH Channel 6Find our event featured in the Welcoming America 'Taste of Belonging Cookbook' (page 55).
