With Wayside's support, the Portland Public Schools are sharing more than 250 boxes of groceries with students and their families weekly. Thanks to the partnership Wayside has had with Portland Public Schools over the years through our Community Meal Program and Kids’ Healthy Snacks Program, when the pandemic hit Maine in March, we already had the groundwork laid to be able to collaborate and jump into action. Since then, we have seen our partnership solidify and expand to share grocery staples weekly with hundreds of families. At Wayside we use food to strengthen our community, and we are proud to be providing an opportunity for PPS staff to use food to connect with and check in on their students, especially those who are primarily learning from home. We are in awe and inspired each day by the staff’s dedication to the well-being of our youngest community members and it has been an honor to work together to ensure that students and their families have access to the healthy foods they need to thrive.Watch news coverage below:WMTW-8 "Portland schools team up with Wayside to feed families"WGME-13 "Portland schools, nonprofit organization team up to deliver free meals"
