As we head toward November, now’s the time to think about the Maine Track Club’s popular Nov. 23 Turkey Trot 5K, a Cape Elizabeth road race that provides generous support to Wayside.

In fact, last year the Maine Track Club presented Wayside with a check for $3,250 from the net proceeds from the race. In addition, 2,646 pounds of non-perishable food was donated to Wayside on race day.

Volunteers are always needed on race day. For information about volunteering email Bob at To find out how to get involved in Wayside’s race-day efforts, call the Wayside office at 207.775.4939. For those interested in running.

“Working with Wayside on the Turkey Trot has been a very rewarding experience,” says Bob Ayotte, race director and Wayside board member. “Not only is everyone so appreciative of the monetary and food donations generated by the race, but they provide so much support preparing for the race and on race day. Having Wayside involved in the race has added a whole new dimension to the event.”

Planners hope to reach the cap of 1,000 runners for this year’s race, which was recently inducted into the Maine Running Hall of Fame.
