Portland Public Schools (PPS) needs your help sharing food with students and their families through the summer by providing home deliveries of free groceries from Wayside.PPS, in partnership with Wayside Food Programs, is providing supplemental food boxes and items to students and families experiencing food insecurity. The program started at the height of the pandemic last March 2020 and will continue through this summer. Since this year has been particularly challenging on so many levels and since we already have the structure and the funds (from Wayside) to make this happen, we are eager to find volunteers to ensure we can keep sharing food with families through the summer. Stating the obvious, when school is not in session access to school meals does not exist. This opportunity is a commitment of every Wednesday (10 days total) from June 16th - August 18th. Volunteers will come to Wayside Food Programs during 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM each Wednesday for pick up, and deliver to 5-10 families on an established weekly route created by PPS. This is a low to no contact opportunity, however masks are still required. Volunteers must have a valid driver's license and a vehicle. Volunteers must be able to lift 20 lbs. Complete this brief PPS Application to volunteer.
