In conjunction with their current show Babette's Feast, Portland Stage is hosting a food drive to benefit Wayside Food Programs. Audience members are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate at every performance. The partnership for this show could not be a more perfect fit. In the story, the primary character manages to bring her new, and closed community together around food and in the process, transforms their lives. The Portland Press Herald writes, “[it] is a powerful, delightful story of our shared humanity and of the art that strangers have to share – if we accept it.” Bringing people together over food is a critical part of food security. We look forward to see if the goal of collecting 500 lbs of food can be met to fight hunger and strengthen our community.
