No one should ever have to worry about having enough food. This is especially true after a difficult medical diagnosis and treatment process. Wayside partners with dieticians and nutritionists to serve as resources for both patients, caregivers and practitioners to donate unused, in-date enteral formula and for uninsured and underinsured patients to have free access to the formula prescribed to meet their nutritional needs. Wayside has partnered with New England Life Care and Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute to develop this award-winning program. NEW ENGLAND ENTERAL EXCHANGE DISTRIBUTION WAYSIDE FOOD PROGRAMS | ANNUAL REPORT 2017 13 NEIGHBORHOODS • Riverton Park • Front Street & Washington Gardens • Sagamore Village • Redbank Village • Harbor Terrace Wayside partners with the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry and the Department of Inland Fisheries to distribute hunted game and fish to local food pantries through Wayside’s partner agencies. The State of Maine pays the processing fees and all donations are distributed locally throughout their communities. Wayside brings supplemental food through our monthly Mobile Food Pantries directly into neighborhoods where community members struggle to have consistent access to enough food. This program creates opportunities for supporting and building relationships between neighbors. Neighborhood residents and community groups help to coordinate, manage records and bring groceries to neighbors unable to make it. Residents are also actively engaged in ongoing efforts to improve service delivery. MAINE HUNTERS FOR THE HUNGRY MOBILE FOOD PANTRY Wayside’s mission is right in my ‘wheelhouse.’ Not only are we helping to feed people, but keeping all this food out of the landfill is very important to me.
