Did you know Wayside has a book fairy in the warehouse? The Book Fairy Pantry Project that is. The BFPP is a grassroots family literacy momement with the mission of getting books into the hands of all families. They collect new and gently used quality childen's books and distribute them to participating food pantries and WIC offices. Since Wayside is already a hub for 50 soup kitchens, food pantries and other service agencies in Cumberland County, BFPP set-up shelves in the warehouse. Now when partner agencies come to pick up food they also get to peruse young adult and children's books to redistrubute. This past week the shelves were restocked thanks to the Cheverus High School Key Club who ran a week-long book drive at their school and collected over 400 new and gently used books to share with their community. What a wonderful way to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and National Read Across America Day!
